Description
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 14 Palestinians during overnight and predawn raids across the occupied West Bank on Thursday, according to local Palestinian and Israeli army sources.

According to local sources in the northern occupied West Bank, two Palestinian “youths” were detained from the Askar refugee camp in Nablus, while three others were detained from the Azzun refugee camp in eastern Qalqiliya.

The two Palestinians from Askar camp were identified as former prisoner Ahmad Saqer and Rami Abu Hweileh, while the three from Azzun camp were identified as Muhammad Nassar, Kathem Abu Radwan, and Mumen Abu Haniyeh.

An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed to Ma’an two detentions from Askar and three from Azzun.

Israeli forces also raided the Abu Arra family house in the Jenin-area village of Aqaba, detaining one and interrogating others, including former prisoner Sheikh Mustafa Abu Arra and his son Zaid Abu Arra. The detainee was reported to be Omar Walid Abu Arra.

The Israeli army added that one Palestinian was detained from the village of Khirbet Yarza, located in the Jordan Valley district of Tubas.

In the central occupied West Bank district of Ramallah, Israeli forces detained Abdullah Hammad from Silwad.

The Israeli army confirmed one detention from Silwad, adding that Israeli forces found “hunting weapons” during the raid in Silwad. It remained unclear if Hammad’s detention was linked to the weapons.

In the southern occupied West Bank, Israeli forces carried out raids in the Bethlehem and Hebron districts, detaining at least six Palestinians.

Locals in the Bethlehem area village of Husan reported that three youths were detained during raids.

In the Hebron district, locals reported that one Palestinian was detained from the town of Beit Ummar, while three youths were detained during raids on the towns of Bani Naim and Tarqumiya. from Beit Ummar town in northern Hebron.

The Israeli army confirmed to Ma’an one detention from Bani Naim, one from Beit Ummar, and one from Turqumiya.

The Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS), which documents overnight raids by Israeli forces, said in a statement earlier this month that it had recorded the detention of 100 Palestinians, including 18 minors, in the first five days of 2017 alone.

Israeli forces carry out detention raids across the occupied Palestinian territory on a near-nightly basis, with the UN recording an average of 95 weekly raids in the West Bank in 2016.

According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 7,000 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons as of October 2016.
