HEBRON (Ma’an) – Israeli forces raided the village of al-Shuyukh northeast of Hebron city and searched several homes on Thursday during dawn hours, while Israeli forces detained at least seven Palestinians across the occupied West Bank during pre-dawn raids.
Local sources identified one of the houses in al-Shuyukh raided by Israeli forces as belonging to Samer Sami Mohammad al-Halaiqa. Sources added that Israeli forces searched al-Halaiqa’s house, broke furniture, before summoning him for an interrogation.
An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an she would look into reports on the raid.
The spokesperson said that at least seven Palestinians were detained during overnight raids, including one in the village of Surif in the southen West Bank district of Hebron; five were detained in the West Bank’s Jerusalem district from the villages of Qatanna, Qalandiya, and Beit Anan; and another Palestinian was detained in the village of Yabad in Jenin. Palestinian sources did not provide additional details on the identities of those detained.
The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society, which documents overnight raids by Israeli forces, said in a statement on Thursday that it had recorded the detention of 100 Palestinians, including 18 minors, since the beginning of 2017.
Israeli forces carry out detention raids across the occupied Palestinian territory on a near-nightly basis, with the UN recording some 178 raids in the West Bank between Dec. 13 and 26, 2016.
According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 7,000 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons as of October, 400 of whom were minors.
