Description
BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 11 Palestinians between Wednesday and Thursday across the occupied West Bank, Israeli and Palestinian sources said.

In the northern West Bank district of Jenin, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said that Israeli forces detained Abd al-Nasser Muhammad Yassin, and brothers Ayoub and Munadil Nafabaat.

An Israeli army spokesperson only mentioned one detention in Jenin, stating that an alleged Hamas operative had been detained in the village of Anin.

In the Nablus district, PPS said that al-Najah University physics professor Issam al-Ashqar, 57, was detained. The army spokesperson said one Palestinian was detained in the village of Marajin.

In the central West Bank district of Ramallah, Muhammad Abdullah Rizq, 28, and Khalid Muhammad Rizq, 38, were detained, PPS reported.

Hebrew-language news outlets reported that two Palestinians from the Jericho district were detained near the illegal Israeli settlement of Rimonim east of Ramallah on Thursday, after Israeli forces searched them and allegedly found a handgun in their possession.

The army spokesperson told Ma’an that they were looking into the reports.

In the Jerusalem district, PPS stated that Mujahid Hamad Shamasna was detained in the town of Qatanna. The Israeli army confirmed one detention in Qatanna.

Meanwhile, PPS said that Amjad Abu Sbeih, who had been released from Israeli prison ten days earlier, was detained in Jerusalem, without specifying whether in occupied East Jerusalem or the Jerusalem district of the West Bank.

PPS also reported that Muhammad Hussein Tayba was detained in the Jericho district during a daytime raid on Wednesday.

In the southern West Bank, PPS said that Izzat Hassan Deriya, 28, was detained in the Bethlehem-area village of Beit Fajjar.

The prisoner’s organization added that Israeli forces also raided two homes in the village of Beit Ummar in the Hebron district, one of which belonging to local activist Mahmoud Ayyad Awwad.

Israeli forces searched Awwad’s home for the second time this month, breaking interior and exterior doors, and destroying furniture before summoning Awwad and his two sons, Ahmad, 30, and Muhammad, 26, for interrogation, Awwad said.

Israeli forces also raided the home of Mahmoud Abd al-Aziz Awwad, claiming to be looking for his son Muhammad, who was detained ten days earlier and is still in Israeli custody.

The army confirmed on detention in Beit Fajjar, as well as one detention in the Hebron-area village of Qalqas.

Israeli forces conduct night raids across the occupied Palestinian territory on a near-daily basis. According to UN documentation, the Israeli army carried out 185 military detention raids between Nov. 1 and Nov. 14.

According to prisoners rights group Addameer, 7,000 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons as of October. The organization estimates that 40 percent of Palestinian men have been detained by Israel at some point in their lives.
