BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 23 Palestinians between Wednesday evening and Thursday across the occupied West Bank, Israeli and Palestinian sources said.
According to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS), six Palestinians were detained in the northern West Bank district of Jenin.
PPS identified them as Bilal Abu Jalbush, Thaer Moussa, Samir Moussa, Masoud Abu al-Wafa, and brothers Ahmad and Saleh Moussa.
An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed to Ma’an that six Palestinians were detained in the Jenin district village of Mirka.
Hebrew-language news sites reported that Israeli police and army forces shut down a blacksmith workshop in Mirka after Israeli forces claimed it was used to manufacture weapons.
They added that one Palestinian was detained in Qalqiliya, who was identified by PPS as Qasim Adel Abu Khader, 21.
In the central West Bank district of Ramallah, PPS identified four detained Palestinians, listing them as 15-year-old Anas Mahmoud Zayd, who was detained during a commemoration of the death of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat on Thursday, Ahmad Walid Hamid, 21, Abd al-Khaliq Shihadeh Mutan, 22, and Majd Safi, 18.
The army spokesperson noted three detentions in the Ramallah district, listing one in the village of Burqa, one in the Jalazun refugee camp, and one in the village of Silwad.
In the Jericho district, PPS stated that three Palestinians, identified as Abd al-Jabar Yousif Bsharat, Musab Muhammad Jihalin, and Muhammad Mahmoud Jamus, were detained.
The army spokesperson only mentioned two detentions in the Jericho-district village of Jiftlik.
In the southern West Bank district of Bethlehem, PPS said that Israeli forces detained Ruslan Salah, 38, Mahmoud Muhammad Salah, 30, Muhammad Ribhi, 33, Mahmoud Khalil Ghneim, 35, Ashraf Salah, 38, and Ali Samir Taqatqa, 28.
The army spokesperson said five Palestinians were detained in the village of al-Khader, and another in Beit Fajjar.
Meanwhile, PPS said Jalal Salman al-Sarahna, Anas Salhab, and Yusri Masalma were detained in the southernmost West Bank district of Hebron.
The Israeli army said two Palestinians were detained in the city of Hebron.
Israeli forces conduct night raids across the occupied Palestinian territory on a near-daily basis. According to UN documentation, the Israeli army carried out 169 military detention raids over the past two weeks.
According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 7,000 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons as of August. The organization estimates that 40 percent of Palestinian men have been detained by Israel at some point in their lives.
