Israeli forces detain 9 Palestinians in West Bank raids, including woman and minors

03:00 Oct 12 2016 Ni'lin, Bethlehem district, al-Ram (East Jerusalem)

Description
RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained at least nine Palestinians, including a woman and at least three minors, in multiple overnight raids Tuesday across the occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said in a statement on Wednesday that four Palestinians were detained from the village of Nilin in in the central West Bank district of Ramallah and al-Bireh, identified as Mutaz Salih al-Khawaja, 16, Hamzeh Hazem Khawaja, 15, Barakat Ali Nafe, and Zuhdi Ali Nafe.

Israeli forces also detained three Palestinians from Marah Maalla in the southern occupied West Bank district of Bethlehem, identified as Muhammad Ahmad Shihadeh, Ali Muhammad Talal Taqatqa, 17, and Mahmoud Ali Shihadeh, 18.

Two Palestinians were detained from the town of al-Ram in the Jerusalem district of the West Bank, identified by PPS as Muhammad Nadi al-Hashlamun and Ghadir Jamjoum, 35, amid four consecutive days of violent raids into al-Ram, after one of its resident carried out a deadly shooting attack on Sunday and was shot dead on the scene.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an they were looking into reports of detentions.

In the wake of the shooting, which also coincided with heightened security measures and restrictions on Palestinian movement over the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, Israeli forces have carried out mass detentions campaigns across the occupied Palestinian territory.

Israel’s response to attacks has been condemned by rights groups, who have said the measures amount to “collective punishment” and “court-sanctioned revenge,” and represent a clear violation of international law.
According to prisoners rights group Addameer, 7,000 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons as of August, 340 of whom were minors and 56 who were women.
