RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- An Israeli settler was injured late Tuesday night after Palestinian youths threw Molotov cocktails at their vehicle near the village of al-Lubban al-Sharqiya in the central occupied West Bank district of Ramallah.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma'an that three Israeli settlers were attacked while riding in a vehicle when a Molotov cocktail was hurled at them, causing damage to the car and injuring one of them. The injured was evacuated to the Rabin Medical center for treatment.

The spokesperson added that Israeli forces searched the area for youths responsible for the attack and set up a military checkpoint in the area.
Palestinians are routinely imprisoned for throwing rocks and Molotov cocktails at Israeli vehicles, with Israeli authorities passing harsh penalties for stone-throwers in recent years.

In 2015, legislation was passed in the Israeli Knesset allowing sentencing for up to 20 years for a someone convicted of throwing stones at vehicles if intent could be proven. However, the law allows the Israeli state to imprison someone for up to 10 years without proof of intent.

Meanwhile, Israelis who throw stones are rarely detained or prosecuted.
In November, Israel established legislation sentencing Palestinians to a minimum of three years in prison for the act of throwing a stone at an Israeli. Included in the legislation are provisions allowing Israeli authorities to strip stone throwers of their state benefits and canceling access to national health insurance and social services for the families of the accused.

While Palestinians face severe consequences for any attacks on Israeli settlers or their properties, Israelis are rarely reprimanded for attacks on Palestinians. In 2015, 221 settler attacks on Palestinians and their properties were reported, with 75 being reported since the start of 2016, according to UN documentation.
