BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained 28 Palestinians in several areas of the occupied West Bank before on dawn on Thursday, according to Palestinian and Israeli sources.
In the village of Qarawat Bani Hassan in the northern West Bank district of Salfit, Israeli forces detained Issam Rayyan Abu Ubeida, 44, Izz al-Din Naim Marie, 21, Mujahed Adnan Marie, 25, and Abdullah Rafat Rayyan, 20, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) reported in a statement.
An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed two detentions were made in the village, saying they were suspected “Hamas operatives.”
According to Israeli media, Israeli forces also said they found weapons manufacturing tools in Qarawat Bani Hassan village.
Elsewhere in Salfit, Israeli forces detained Muhammad Izzat Marie, 18, Ali Hatem Rayyan, 19, and Jihad Rafat Rayyan, 16, PPS said, without specifying the precise location of their detentions.
In the northern West Bank of Jenin, Israeli forces detained three Palestinians, identified by PPS as Hassan Abu Salah, Jaafar Abu Salaah, and Rida Jamal Habaybeh.
An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed three detentions were made in the Jenin district, and informed Ma’an that two were carried out in the village of Arraba and one in the village of Sanur.
In the Nur Shams refugee camp near Tulkarem in the northern West Bank, Israeli forces detained Abed al-Rahman Nimr Khaled al-Ghul, according to PPS and the Israeli army.
Israeli forces detained four Palestinians from the Tubas district, identified by PPS as Sufian Jawan al-Ghul, Muhammad Salah Sawalmeh, Hamzeh Saleh Subuh, and Saher Abdullah Odeh.
An Israeli army spokesperson also told Ma’an that one Palestinian was detained in the Fara refugee camp in the north of Nablus in the northern West Bank.
In the central West Bank district of Ramallah, Israeli forces detained Fadi Hamad Ghanem, 33, and Rami Ribhi Khader, 35, according to PPS.
According to an Israeli army spokesperson, four Palestinians were detained in the Ramallah district, one in the village of Nilin, one in Kafr Ein, and one suspected Hamas operative in Birzeit.
In the city of Dura in the southern West Bank district of Hebron, Israeli forces detained university student Sujoud al-Darawish, 22, Ibrahim Azazmeh, and Mahmoud Abed al-Majid Amr, 60, according to PPS.
PPS also said Hussein Odeh Issa was detained in the southern district of Bethlehem.
The West Bank raids came as Israeli forces were also heavily deployed in the Shufat refugee camp and the neighborhood of Issawiya in Jerusalem, where a total of 23 Palestinians were detained before dawn on Thursday.
While the Israeli police did not distinguish between detentions made in either area, PPS identified three Palestinians detained in Shufat, which is located inside the occupied West Bank, while Issawiya is a neighborhood within the municipal boundaries of occupied East Jerusalem and the two neighboring communities are separated by Israel’s separation wall.
The three were Muhammad Salah, Sam al-Araj, and Mumen Mafarjeh.
Also in the Jerusalem district, PPS said Iyad al-Tirsh and Omar Abed Salah were detained by Israeli forces. An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an one Palestinian was detained in the Jerusalem-area village of Abu Dis.
Israeli raids in Palestinian towns, villages, and refugee camps are a daily occurrence in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Most raids typically take place at night or in the early morning hours.
According to Addameer, 7,000 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons as of August. The group estimates that 40 percent of Palestinian men have been detained by Israel at some point in their lives.
