Israel sentences 18-year-old Palestinian to 14 years in Israeli prison

RAMALLAH (Ma’an) -- An Israeli military court Thursday sentenced 18-year-old Nael Tabib from the village of Azzun in the occupied West Bank district of Qalqilya to 14 years in Israeli prison, according to a statement released by the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS).

PPS said in the statement that Tabib was detained on December 26, 2014 when he was just 16 years old. He was only officially sentenced on Thursday.

However, it remained unclear on Friday what charges were brought against Tabib.

Meanwhile, three Palestinians prisoners entered a new year inside Israeli prisons on Friday, according to the Sawt al-Asra (Voice of Prisoners) Radio.

Prisoner Mahmoud Hammad Jumaa al-Tarrabin from the Gaza Strip, who was detained in 2006, has served 10 years of his 17 year sentence in Israeli prisons.

Prisoner Muhammad Ahmad Amin Jarrar, 56, from the Jenin refugee camp, was detained in 2002, and has served 14 years of his 15 year sentence.

Prisoner Milad Muhammad Mahmoud Khatib, 28, a resident of Israel, was detained in 2012 and was sentenced to 7 years in Prison.

According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, as of July, 7,000 Palestinians are currently being held in Israeli prisons.
