RAMALLAH (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 16 Palestinians from across the occupied West Bank, according to Palestinians and Israeli sources.
A statement from the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) identified four Palestinians detained from the southern district of Hebron as Najib Kawazba, Munther Abu Warda, Khaled Ahmad al-Faqih, and Luay Akram Masharqa.
An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed three of the detentions carried out in the Hebron area, saying that one was made in the village of Khursa, one in Sair, and one from the al-Fawwar refugee camp, whom she said was a suspected Hamas operative.
In the district of Bethlehem, PPS said Israeli forces detained 48-year-old Naem Abu Aker from al-Duheisha refugee camp during a raid that sparked clashes between Israeli soldiers and local Palestinians, which left seven Palestinians injured by live fire.
Israeli forces also detained Hashim Taqatqa, 22, and Khaled Taqatqa, 20, from the village of Beit Fajjar south of Bethlehem city.
The Israeli army confirmed the detentions in al-Duheisha and Beit Fajjar.
Israeli forces detained Firas Abd al-Hamed Mansour, 40, and Aseid Ratib Abdallah Ajrab, 29, from central occupied West Bank district of Ramallah.
According to the Israeli army spokesperson, one Palestinian was detained from the village of Ein Arik in Ramallah, and four from the village of Sawahira in the central West Bank district of Jerusalem.
In Jenin in the northern West Bank, Israeli forces also detained Zakariya Alghoul, PPS said, adding that Asad Ali Fhedat, 36, was detained from Jericho in the central West Bank. The Israeli army confirmed a detention was made in the Jordan Valley, where Jericho is located.
The army also mentioned one Palestinian was detained in the northern occupied West Bank city of Nablus.
According to Palestinian prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 7,000 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons as of July, more than 6,000 of whom were from the West Bank.
Israeli forces have carried out on average 78 detention raids across the West Bank each week in 2016, according to UN documentation, although the army has carried out some 100 weekly raids in the past month.

The Hebron office of the Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS), in the southern part of the occupied West Bank, has reported that Israeli soldiers have kidnapped, on Tuesday at dawn, four Palestinians in a number of towns in the district.
The PPS said several army vehicles invaded Sa’ir town, east of Hebron, searched homes and kidnapped a young man identified as Najeeb Kawazba.
It added that the soldiers also kidnapped a young man, identified as Monther Abu Warda, from his home in the al-Fawwar refugee camp, south of Hebron.
The soldiers also searched homes in Doura town, southwest of Hebron, and kidnapped Tha’er Mohammad Nassar.
Another Palestinian, identified as Mohammad No’man Za’aqeeq, was kidnapped from his home in Beit Ummar town, north of Hebron after the soldiers violently searched his home and several nearby homes.
Also on Tuesday at dawn, the army invaded the Deheishe refugee camp, south of Bethlehem, kidnapped a former political prisoner, and injured seven Palestinians.
