HEBRON (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 13 Palestinian in predawn military raids Monday morning, targeting the southern occupied West Bank district of Hebron in particular, where nine Palestinians were detained.
Locals told Ma’an that Israeli forces raided al-Fawwar refugee camp southwest of the city of Hebron and detained resident Ali Sarahnah. In the village of Beit Awwa in the eastern outskirts of the district, Israeli forces detained a resident identified by locals as Zuad Sweiti.
Local sources in the Hebron area town of Dura said an Israeli military vehicle crashed into an electricity pole, causing a power cut in the area during a raid.
A statement from the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) confirmed the detentions in Hebron, adding that Israeli forces also raided the district of Bethlehem overnight.
In the village of Tuqu east of the city of Bethlehem, local Ahmad Jamal al-Umour was detained, while Muhammad Khalid Taqatqa was detained in the village of Beit Fajjar south of Bethlehem.
An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed to Ma’an that one detention was made in Beit Fajjar, adding that another Palestinian was detained near Teqoa -- an illegal Israeli settlement in the southern West Bank district of Bethlehem.
The PPS statement added that a 60-year-old woman, identified as Suad Abd al-Musin Thawabta from Beit Fajjar, was detained on Monday while she was visiting her son Nabil in Israel’s Ktziot prison in the Negev.
To the north in the district of Nablus, Muayyad Sharab and Shadi Awwad were detained from their homes in the village of Awarta, according to PPS.

In Jenin, the northernmost West Bank district, Israeli force stormed the town of Qabatiya and detained four young men. Locals identified them as Amjad Kamil al-Kazaha, Muhammad Bilal Kamil, Mahmoud Abu Jaafar, and Husam Kamil.
The Israeli army spokesperson confirmed three of the detentions in Qabatiya, and one suspected Hamas operative was detained in the village of al-Sawahira in the central West Bank.
According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, there were 7,000 Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli custody as of May, the majority of which detained during near nightly raids in the occupied West Bank.
According to UN documentation, a weekly average of 83 search and detention operations were carried out in the West Bank since the beginning of the year.
