BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces Friday detained a 15-year-old Palestinian girl from a military checkpoint near the Ibrahimi Mosque in the occupied West Bank district of Hebron for allegedly having a knife in her possession, according to the Israeli border police.
An official of the Israeli border police told Ma’an the knife was found after authorities conducted a search on the teenager’s belongings. He added that it was unclear if the young girl had been planning to use the knife in a "terrorist attack."
The official confirmed that the young girl is still being interrogated by Israeli intelligence.
Israeli police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld told Ma'an the teenager was detained an hour and a half after a 27-year-old Palestinian woman was killed by Israeli police officers near the Ibrahimi Mosque after an alleged stabbing attempt.
Rosenfeld was unable to confirm if the teenage girl was accompanied by a parental guardian during the ongoing Israeli interrogations.
According to Israeli human rights group B’Tselem, international and Israeli law stipulates that a parental guardian must be present during an interrogation of a child.
