RAMALLAH (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces Wednesday detained at least 11 Palestinians, including three minors, in predawn raids carried out across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, according to Israeli and Palestinian sources.
In occupied East Jerusalem, three 16-year-old boys were detained, according to a statement released by the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS), identified as Nitham Ghannam, Yazan Tarawa, and Ahmad Tarawa.
A South African national identified as Adel Asmar was also detained in Jerusalem, the statement reported. The South African embassy could not be reached for comment on the case on Wednesday afternoon.
During detention raids carried out in the southern West Bank district of Hebron, two Palestinians were detained from their homes, identified by PPS as Anas Ahmad Abu Farah and Ramadan Ali al-Qadi.
In the northern West Bank, Kamal Mustafa Shtayya and Salah Dweikat were detained in Nablus, according to PPS. An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that one Palestinian was detained in Nablus for alleged illegal activities.
Further north, in the district of Tulkarem, Israeli forces detained Ghadi Abd al-Sattar Yousif, 19, PPS reported.
An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that an additional three Palestinians were detained in the Bethlehem area, one for being an alleged Hamas operative and the others for alleged illegal activities. No more details were given on those detained.
Since the start of 2016, Israeli forces have conducted a weekly average of 88 search and detention operations in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, according to UN documentation.
According to Palestinian prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 7,000 Palestinians were being held in Israeli custody as of May. The organization estimates that 40 percent of Palestinian men have been detained by Israel at least once in their lives.

Israeli soldiers kidnapped, Wednesday, two Palestinian siblings from their home in the al-‘Eesawiyya town, in occupied Jerusalem.
Media sources in Jerusalem said the soldiers kidnapped Ahmad Tarwa, and his brother Yazan, after storming their family’s home, and violently searching it.
The kidnapped siblings were cuffed and blindfolded before the soldiers moved them to an interrogation facility in the city.
In related news, Israeli navy ships opened fire on a number of Palestinian fishing boats, in Gaza territorial waters, in Beit Lahia, in the northern part of the coastal region.
