HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained a Palestinian woman at a checkpoint in the southern occupied West Bank as she was on her way to visit her son held in an Israeli prison, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said on Thursday.
According to PPS, Wiam Lutfi Manasra, 50, a resident of the town of Bani Naim east of Hebron, was detained at the al-Thahriya checkpoint as she was headed to the Ramon prison to visit her son, Usama al-Salal.
The organization added that Israeli forces found nail clippers and a nail file in Manasra’s purse.
An Israeli army spokesperson said they were looking into the report.
PPS added that following Manasra’s detention, Israeli prison services raided Section 2 of the Ramon prison, where al-Salal, who is serving a 17-year prison sentence, is held.
According to Palestinian prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 7,000 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli prisons, including 68 women.
