HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained at least nine Palestinians in predawn raids Sunday across the occupied Palestinian territory, according to Palestinians and Israeli sources.

Locals said Israeli forces raided neighborhoods and searched several homes in the southern occupied West Bank district of Hebron, detaining five Palestinians.

In the city of Hebron, the detained were identified by locals as Jibril Abu Sneineh, Amjad Salhab, Main Siyaj, and Attaf Yaqin al-Atrash.

Northwest of Hebron in Beit Ummar, local activist Muhammad Ayyad Awad told Ma’an that Israeli forces detained Rashid Yusif Badir Awad,17, after raiding and searching his house. They also served an unidentified youth a summons to appear before Israeli intelligence.
An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed the five detained in Hebron and informed Ma’an of an additional sixth detention in the district.

The raids come after residents of Hebron buried Ibrahim Baradiya, 54, on Saturday, who was shot and killed by Israeli forces after he allegedly attacked an Israeli soldier with an ax at the entrance of al-Arroub refugee camp, where the funeral took place.

Prior to the six detained in Hebron Sunday, at least two Palestinians have been detained and two injured by Israeli forces in the area following Baradiya’s killing.

The Israeli authorities announced Friday they had returned Baradiya’s body to his family “by mistake,” and as a result the body was transported to the funeral via back roads in fear Israel would try to take it back.

Clashes broke out between Palestinian youths and Israeli military forces Saturday following the funeral.

Meanwhile, in the village of Issawiya in occupied East Jerusalem, Israeli forces detained Yusif Obeid, locals said.

Former prisoner Ahmad Qasim al-Sheikh was detained in the village of Marrah Rabah in the southern occupied West Bank district of Bethlehem.

Locals identified a Palestinian detained in Tammun, a village in the northern West Bank near Jenin, as Dirgham Muhammad Bisharat.
The Israeli army spokesperson confirmed detentions in the district of Ramallah and two in district of Bethlehem.

Since the beginning of 2016, Israeli forces have carried out a weekly average of 95 search and detention operations in the occupied Palestinian territory, according to The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Israel is currently holding 7,000 Palestinians in its jails, according to prisoners' rights organization Addameer.
