Description
BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained a Palestinian man at a checkpoint in the northern occupied West Bank on Sunday after he allegedly tried to carry out a stabbing attack.
Israeli police spokeswoman Luba al-Samri said the man was detained at the Tappuah junction in the Nablus district after Israeli soldiers noticed him walking towards a group of Israeli settlers waiting at a bus station.
The Palestinian man was carrying a knife, al-Samri added, and was taken in to be interrogated by Israeli forces.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
More than 200 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since October, many of them while allegedly carrying out or attempting to carry out small-scale attacks against Israeli soldiers. Almost 30 Israelis have been killed during the same time period.
According to prisoners’ rights organization Addameer, at least 7,000 Palestinians were detained in Israeli prisons as of February.
