HEBRON (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 27 Palestinians during overnight raids in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem on Sunday, Palestinian and Israeli sources told Ma'an.
In the southern occupied West Bank district of Hebron, locals said Israeli forces detained at least eight Palestinians.
According to locals, Israeli troops stormed several houses in the village of Surif northwest of Hebron city, detaining Taqi Jamal al-Hur, Waheed Abu Fara, Muhammad Khalil Ghunimat, Fadi Ghunemat, 33, and Yousef Wahed Abu Fara, 25, locals said.
In Hebron city, Israeli forces also detained Muhammad Arafat al-Qawasmi and Shadi Asem al-Hashlamoun, 23, and Rami Hadoush, local sources said.
In Nablus, Israeli troops detained Mujahid Muhammad al-Qutub, Naser Shaban Hanani, Ameer Ibrahim Nasasrah, Maher Khattab, and two brothers, Ala and Adnan Ayyad.
At least five Palestinians were detained in the Jenin area, according to a statement from the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society.
The organization identified the detainees as Ahmad Hafez Saayda, 17, Ahmad Bilal Abu al-Rub, Ameer Kamal al-Ruzza, Ahmad Ali Sammoudi, 16, and Sameh Hassan Samoudi, 16.
In the area of Ramallah and al-Bireh, Israeli forces detains Abdul-Qader Kayed Hammad, 32, from Silwad, as well as Ibrahim Misbah Suliman, 20 and Muhammad Mahmoud Omar, 20, from the Ourta al-Tahta neighborhood near Ramallah.
In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces detained Taha Abu Khdeir and Abed al-Mansour from the neighborhood of Shufaat, and Ahmad Abu Diab and Abdul-Rahman al-Abbassi from Silwan.
An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that four Palestinians were detained in and around Hebron, five near Nablus, four near Bethlehem and three near Jenin.
Israeli forces also raided in Hebron the house of Mamdouh Amr, a Palestinian prisoner, and took measurements of the building with the intentions of demolishing the structure.
Amr has been detained since Wednesday after he was shot and wounded during an alleged attempted stabbing attack near the illegal Gush Etzion settlement bloc south of Bethlehem.
During the incident an Israeli soldier was shot and killed by friendly fire.
Israeli forces have proceeded with a number of demolitions of homes belonging to slain or imprisoned Palestinians suspected of having been involved in attacks or attempted attacks in the past several months.
Israeli rights group B’Tselem condemned the practice in October as "court sanctioned revenge," carried out on family members who have not committed crimes, and amounting to collective punishment.
There were around 6,900 Palestinians held in Israeli jails as of January, according to prisoners' rights group Addameer.
