BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces on Thursday raided al-Duheisha refugee camp in the occupied West Bank city of Bethlehem and summoned a Palestinian child for questioning, locals told Ma'an.

Locals said Israeli forces summoned 12-year-old Mahmoud Ahmad al-Mughrabi to meet with Israeli intelligence, adding that the boy's father is serving 17 life sentences in Israeli prison. The boy's mother was also recently detained and released after a month in custody.

Clashes broke out in the camp during the raid, with Israeli forces shooting off tear gas and rubber-coated steel bullets and Palestinian youth responding with rocks and Molotov cocktails, locals said.

An Israeli army spokesperson did not immediately respond for comment.

Violent clashes in al-Duheisha are common and break out nearly every time Israeli forces enter the camp, which is located in Area A and should be under full Palestinian control, according to the Oslo agreements.

Al-Duheisha refugee camp was established in 1949, with most of the families originating from more than 46 villages in Jerusalem.
Over 13,000 refugees now live in the 0.31-square-kilometer camp, where around one-third of residents are unemployed.

Like many refugee camps in the occupied West Bank, water in the al-Duheisha is often cut off for "long periods of time," according to documentation by the Applied Research Institute -- Jerusalem (ARIJ), due to the Palestinian Water Authority's (PWA) dependence on Israeli water sources.

Al-Duheisha also lacks a proper solid waste disposal system "due mainly to the obstacles created by the Israeli authorities for local and national institutions, like granting licenses to establish such a landfill, because the appropriate land is within Area C, under the Israeli control," ARIJ found.

At least two camp residents have been shot dead by Israeli forces during detention raids and clashes since unrest spread across the occupied Palestinian territory in October.
