Description
HEBRON (Ma'an) -- The Israeli authorities on Wednesday informed a Palestinian family that their 17-year-old daughter, who had been reported as missing, has been held in Israeli custody for the past three days, Palestinian security sources told Ma'an.
The security sources said that the Israeli authorities detained the teenager, identified as Duha Jihad al-Baw, on Sunday, and notified her father, Jihad al-Baw three days later via telephone.
During the call, Israeli authorities requested that Jihad come to the Etzion detention center. It was unclear if Jihad was being summoned for questioning or to pick up his daughter.
The 17-year-old is the sister of Hassan al-Baw, a 23-year-old Palestinian who was killed in November after she was shot in the heart during clashes in the southern West Bank village of Halhul, where the family lives.
Since a wave of unrest swept the occupied Palestinian territory at the start of October, prisoners' rights group Addameer and Defense of Children International Palestine have documented a massive increase in the detention of Palestinian minors.
Both groups have called on Israel to implement laws equally against Palestinian and Jewish Israeli youth.
