RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained at least eight Palestinians in predawn raids across the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, Israeli and Palestinian sources said.

The Palestinian Prisoner's Society said in a statement that three Palestinians were detained in Jenin, identified as Majd Husni Abu Shamla, Muhammad Ziyad Alawna, and Yasser Ali Abu Muallah.

The society said that Israeli forces also detained Othman Kaabnah and Khalid Abu Namous in Jericho and Tariq Khalil in al-Eizariya.

An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed that six Palestinians were detained, including one in the district of Tulkarem, two in Jenin, one in Ramallah, one in Bethlehem, and one in Jericho.

She said that one detainee in Jenin district and another in Ramallah were "Hamas operatives," while the others were detained for "illegal activity."

Israeli forces have detained hundreds of Palestinians since a wave of unrest swept the occupied Palestinian territory at the beginning of October.

Palestinian prisoners' rights group Addameer estimated in December that Israel was holding 6,800 Palestinian prisoners, including 470 children.
