BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- The Israeli army detained at least 19 Palestinians and shot and wounded two others in overnight raids across the West Bank Thursday, Palestinian and Israeli sources said.
Two Palestinians were detained in the northern West Bank district of Nablus, Palestinian security sources told Ma’an.
Israeli soldiers raided several houses in the village of Tell, detaining 41-year-old Asaad Taysir Yamin. A raid in the Balata refugee camp near Nablus led to the detention of Amjad Hashash.
Two Palestinians were injured during the raid in Tell. Hamed Ibrahim Awad Ramadan, 21, was injured with a live bullet in the thigh. He was taken to the Rafidiya Governmental Hospital for treatment where his injury was reported as moderate.
Meanwhile, Jihad al-Wahhabi was reportedly injured with a 0.22-caliber "tutu" bullet below his stomach.
Israeli rights organization B’Tselem has denounced in the past the "unlawful" use of tutu bullets by Israeli forces, noting that "the practical message conveyed by the military to soldiers in the field is that 0.22 bullets are not lethal ammunition, but rather another crowd control measure."
Seven Palestinians were detained in raids near Bethlehem, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society said in a statement.
The organization identified them as Khaled and Suhaib Thawabta from the town Beit Fajjar; Muhammad Abdullah al-Urouj, Jaafar Abdullah al-Urouj, and Rabaa al-Urouj, 28, from the al-Aarouj area in eastern Bethlehem.
Meanwhile, Anas Izzat Abu Dayyeh, 24, and Mufti al-Masri, 23, from the refugee camp of al-Duheisha south of Bethlehem were also detained. Clashes erupted between Israeli forces and Palestinians during the detention raid.
Locals from the Hebron district told Ma'an that four Palestinians had been detained at dawn in the area.
The detainees were identified as Amir Sami al-Darawish from the village of Dura southwest of Hebron, Issa Makhamreh from the village of Yatta south of Hebron, Muhammad Rawasneh from the village of al-Shuyukh northeast of Hebron, and Mahmoud Ali Mahmoud al-Qadi from the town of Surif northwest of Hebron.
Witnesses said Israeli forces raided al-Jalazun refugee camp in northern Ramallah and detained three Palestinians identified as Yazan Nakhleh, 20, Ziad al-Shurti and Misbah al-Kanas, 32.
In the Tulkarem district, Israeli forces detained three Palestinians -- Alaa Barqawi, Ammar Anis, and Samer Salah Abd al-Haq -- from the village of Thinnaba.
An Israeli military spokesperson told Ma’an that 15 Palestinians had been detained for either "illegal activities" or for being suspected "Hamas operatives."
She said five Palestinians were detained in the Bethlehem area, three in Tulkarem, three north of Ramallah, two near Nablus and two around Hebron.
