An 15-year-old Israeli girl suffered minor wounds to her leg Monday afternoon when police officers shot and wounded a 16-year-old Palestinian boy from East Jerusalem who was trying to stab police officers in the city. The incident occurred on Haim Bar-Lev Road, which bisects the northern part of the capital.
Magen David Adom paramedics gave first aid to the girl, before evacuating her to Hadassah University Hospital, Mount Scopus. A 29-year-old man was treated at the scene for shock.
Police said the attacker, who lives in northeast Jerusalem, sought to stab police officers who were stationed nearby.
Officers noticed a young Arab male acting suspiciously. After they asked him for identification, they said later, he pulled a knife out of his pocket and tried to stab them.
One of the policemen shoved the would-be assailant. Another shot him, hitting him in the leg. The police chased him, shooting him in the legs again.
None of the police officers were hurt in the incident, but the teenage girl was hit by what the police believe to be ricocheting bullet fragments.
The suspect was admitted to the city’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center in moderate condition with multiple gunshot wounds, and was questioned by security forces there.
The attack comes a day after an attempted stabbing attack in Jerusalem's Armon Hanetziv neighborhood. According to the police, a suspected assailant attacked a man with a knife at a bus stop, but failed to cause him any injuries. The attacker fled, and later a suspect was arrested in the vicinity.

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian man was shot and moderately wounded after he allegedly attempted to stab an Israeli police officer in central Jerusalem on Monday afternoon, Israeli police and medics said.
Israeli police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld initially reported that two Israelis were wounded in the alleged attack near Jerusalem's light rail, with the Palestinian "terrorist" shot and wounded.
However, a spokesperson for Hadassah hospital later confirmed that neither Israeli had sustained stab wounds. "No one got stabbed," she said.
She said that a 15-year-old girl had received a very light injury to her leg, although the cause was not clear, while a 29-year-old student was also lightly injured when he fell to the ground during the incident.
The Palestinian, meanwhile, was taken to Shaare Zedek hospital in moderate condition. A spokesperson for the hospital said that he had been shot three times and was unconscious but stable.
In the violence that has shaken the occupied Palestinian territory since the beginning of October, nearly 140 Palestinians have been killed by Israelis.
While Israel had alleged many of those were attempting to attack Israelis when they were shot, Palestinians and rights groups have disputed Israel's version of events in a number of cases.
The attacks that have taken place -- claiming the lives of more than 20 Israelis -- have been accompanied by a wave of popular unrest.
