HEBRON (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces early Wednesday detained 28 Palestinians from across the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem in search and arrest raids, locals and Israel's army said.
Locals told Ma'an that Hussni Omar al-Murqtin, 16, Alaa Mazen Dababsah, 24, and Raef Muhammad Ahmad Qabaja, 24, were detained from Tarqumiya west of Hebron after several homes in the village were searched.
Others detained in Hebron were identified by the Palestinian Prisoners' Society (PPS) as Younis Muhammad Abu Rmeila, 19, Bilal Idrees Ashour, 19, Hamza Muhammad al-Qawasmi, 19, Ibrahim Rajai Sharawi, 21, Hamdan Muhammad Hamdan Ewidat, 23, and Osama abu Qweider, 15.
In the Shweika neighborhood of Tulkarem, Israeli forces detained 17-year-old twins Dana and Diana Abdullah Khweiled, as well as Hamza Ahmad Abdul-Karim Hamed, 22, after raiding their homes, the head of the PPS's Tulkarem branch, Ibrahim Nimer told Ma’an.
Nimer said that Muhammad Yousef Hissien Suliman, 24, was also detained from Tulkarem, adding that more than 200 Palestinians have been detained from Tulkarem since Oct. 1, 82 of whom were detained in December alone.
In Jerusalem, Mansour Saleem, 18, Mahmoud Saleem, 16, Muhammad Abu Farha,17, Ibrahim al-Rajabi,13, Ahmad Ghatit,12, and Isaac Ghatit, 23, were also detained, according to the PPS.
Four Palestinians were detained from Ramallah and al-Bireh,
identified as Qusai Ahmad Sadallah Harfoush, Muhammad Sadallah Harfosuh, Muhammad Haytham Rebhi Kayed, and Muhammad Hussien Ibrahim al-Habal, all of whom are under the age of 17, PPS said.
From Beit Duqqo north of Jerusalem, Israeli soldiers detained Muhammad Shafiq Marar, 19, Ali Issa Hassan, 2, and Dawood Rayan, 34, who was reportedly injured at the time of his arrest.
Hashim Nafi Shalabi, 38, and Fadi Tahseen Ahmad Zaror,30, were also detained from Jenin.
An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed two arrests in the Hebron area, both suspected "Hamas operatives." Seventeen others were detained from other areas of the West Bank, the spokesperson added.
Around 6700 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli jails according to prisoners' rights group Addameer, the majority of whom were detained during search and arrest raids, carried out on a nightly basis by Israeli forces in occupied Palestinian territory.
