TUBAS (Ma’an) -- Three Palestinians were injured by live fire early Wednesday morning as Israeli forces ransacked homes across the occupied West Bank detaining at least 31, locals said.

Locals told Ma’an that Israeli forces heavily opened fire in the Nablus-area town of Tubas after surrounding the home of a leader of the political group Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP).

The DFLP leader, identified as Iyad Maslamani, was detained by the forces after he refused to turn himself in for over a year, locals added.

A Tubas local, Bassam Maslamani, identified those injured in the shoot-out that followed as Ahmad Hreish, 22, Muhammad Hamzeh, 20, and Muhannad Maslamani, 46, who was shot in the stomach and in critical condition.

In the Hebron-area village of Sair, locals told Ma’an that Israeli military forces stormed the village and ransacked the home of 27-year-old Jawad Hasan al-Froukh, who was shot and injured by the forces a few days prior.

Al-Froukh was handcuffed and taken into custody in an ambulance accompanying the forces, locals said.

Also in the Hebron district, Israeli forces raided Beit Ummar and entered several homes for inspection before detaining three young men.

A spokesman for a popular committee in the town, Muhammad Ayyad Awad, identified the detainees as Hamza Samir Abu Maria, 16, Rabee Jawad Awad, 19, and Abd al-Nasser Abd al-Hamid Abu Maria, 17.

Awad told Ma’an that Israeli forces broke down the main door of Abd al-Hamid Abu Maria’s home during the detention raid, forcing five members of the family into one room while the forces searched the home.

The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society identified a total of 31 Palestinians detained early Wednesday, including seven from occupied East Jerusalem, six from the West Bank city of Qalqilya, as well as others from Tulkarem, Bethlehem, and Nablus.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma'an that 16 Palestinians were detained from across the occupied West Bank overnight Tuesday for "suspected involvement in terrorist activity."

Over 2,000 Palestinians were detained during October and November as Israeli authorities stepped up measures in response to increasing violence.
