HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces shot and killed two Palestinian teenagers in Hebron overnight Friday after an alleged stabbing attack on an Israeli soldier, Israel's army and locals said.

"Overnight two assailants stabbed an IDF soldier in Hebron. In response to the threat, forces fired at the attackers, resulting in their death. A soldier was moderately wounded," an Israeli army spokesperson told Ma'an.

Palestinian sources identified the victims to Ma'an as cousins Taher Faysal Fannoun, 19, a student at Hebron University, and Faysal Abd al-Minem Fannoun, 15.

Witnesses in the Tel Rumeida area where the incident took place reported seeing two bodies on the ground after hearing gunshots after midnight.

Israeli authorities said that the two youths were searched as they crossed a checkpoint in Tel Rumeida but later returned and stabbed a soldier in the face before other Israeli soldiers shot them dead.
At least 109 Palestinians have been killed since Oct. 1.

Hebron, the largest city in the occupied West Bank, has borne the brunt of violence over the past month, with at least a third of Palestinians shot dead by Israeli forces residents of the district.

Nineteen Israelis have been killed in attacks during the same time period.

A soldier was wounded in Hebron late on Thursday in the day's third attack. Two Palestinian assailants were shot dead.

The soldier suffered light injuries after he was stabbed at a military post near Tel Rumeida, a Jewish settlement at the center of the southern West Bank city of Hebron.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and were treating the wounded 20-year-old soldier, a spokesman of the Magen David Adom ambulance service said.

Earlier, a policeman was moderately wounded in a stabbing attack in Jerusalem's Old City. The stabber, a 21-year-old Palestinian man was shot and killed. The policeman was sitting in a car when he was attacked. Other officers who were at the scene shot at the assailant, evidently also wounding the policeman, officials said.

Two were wounded on Thursday morning in a shooting attack at the West Bank checkpoint of Hizma. A 47-year-old man, apparently a Palestinian, was seriously wounded and a 20-year-old Israeli soldier was lightly wounded. The Palestinian assailant was shot and killed at the scene.
