Description
BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained 31 Palestinians across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem overnight Monday and into Tuesday, locals told Ma'an.
Most of the detainees were taken from the occupied West Bank districts of Hebron, Nablus and Jericho.
Nine Palestinians, one of whom was a 15-year-old boy, were detained from the southern occupied district of Hebron, local sources said.
The detainees were identified as Ibrahim Majed al-Titi, Bilal Talal Mewi, Muhammad Yousif al-Derbashi, Ezz al-Deen Abu Maria, Ahmad Abdullah al-Salameen, Abdullah al-Salameen , Ali Amayra, Aoyub Odah al-Rjoub, and Saif Saleem Rushdi, 15.
An Israeli army spokesperson said only four Palestinians were detained in Hebron during the same period, adding that two of the detainees were "active Hamas operatives."
In Nablus, Israeli forces detained six men identified as Abdul-Hakim al-Qadah, Rami Nasser, Taymoor Kharaz, Imad Amer, Ismael Istetiya, and Zuhri Srouji.
An Israeli army spokesperson only confirmed five detentions from Nablus, two of which were detained for being "Hamas operatives," the spokesperson said.
Six Palestinians were detained from Jericho, including three brothers. The six were identified as Burhan Ibrahim, Muath Saleem Abu Dalakh, Muhammad Ghaith Saleem Abu Dalakh, Saddam Salem Kaabna, and Mustafa Imad al-Alem.
From Qalqiliya, Israeli troops detained Jameel Hantash, 44, and Ali Omar Nakhla, 19, and Ameer Nashat Rayyan, 21.
An Israeli army spokesperson said two Palestinians were detained from the occupied West Bank's Bethlehem district, without providing further details.
In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces detained four Palestinians, locals said.
One of the detainees has been identified as Yousef Rebhi Rajabi, 18, who was detained near a light rail station in West Jerusalem for allegedly carrying a knife, which was found on him by a light rail employee during a random search.
Al-Rajabi was reportedly transferred for interrogation.
Well over 1,000 Palestinians have been detained in the occupied Palestinian territory since the start of last month.
Prisoners’ rights group Addameer said at the end of October that the “recent wave of mass arrests has resulted in severe overcrowding” in Israeli prisons and detention and interrogation centers.
Such overcrowding has led to a significant worsening of already poor conditions, the group added, and hundreds of those detained have been children.
Increased detentions are one of several large-scale measures implemented by Israeli authorities that Amnesty International has labelled as collective punishment on Palestinians.
Other measures include road closures, sealing entrances of towns and villages, home demolitions, and invasive and humiliating security checks on individuals.
