BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli undercover forces detained a Palestinian youth during clashes near al-Azza refugee camp in Bethlehem on Friday, as three other youths were shot and injured with live fire, including one critically.

Head of the ambulance and emergency department in Bethlehem, Muhammad Awad, told Ma'an that a Palestinian youth was shot in the neck, with the bullet exiting from his chest.

The unidentified youth was rushed to surgery at the Beit Jala Governmental hospital.

Two other young Palestinians were shot with live fire, one in the arm and the other in the thigh, with both taken for treatment at the same hospital.

Seven Palestinians were treated for tear gas inhalation at the scene of the clashes.

Meanwhile, Israeli undercover forces who had infiltrated the demonstrations detained at least four Palestinians outside of the Jacir Palace hotel where the demonstration was taking place.

In Hebron, a Palestinian was injured with live fire during clashes in Beit Ummar after being shot in the back. The bullet lodged in his stomach and is said to be in stable condition after undergoing surgery at the al-Ahli hospital, medics told Ma'an.

Two others were injured by rubber-coated steel bullets and dozens suffered from tear gas inhalation, a spokesman for the town's popular resistance committee, Mohammad Ayyad Awad, told Ma’an.

Clashes in Bethlehem were near-daily during the month of October where least two Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces, including a 13-year-old child.

The main exit out of Bethlehem nearby where the clashes generally take place was closed for three days near the end of the month in order to safeguard the entrance of thousands of Jewish Israelis to Rachel’s Tomb, separated from the occupied city by the separation barrier.

The closures forced thousands of Palestinian workers to use alternate routes to enter Jerusalem and contributed to rising tensions in the area.

According to the UN Office for Humanitarian Affairs, the number of Palestinian fatalities in the occupied West Bank between Oct. 1 and Nov. 2 made up 90 percent of the total number deaths during the whole of 2014 in the occupied area.

Israel has been slammed for unnecessary use of force during demonstrations for years and came under additional criticism by the international community last month.
