HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained four Palestinians, including a 14-year-old boy, from Halhul, Hebron and Yatta in the southern occupied West Bank district of Hebron overnight Wednesday, locals said.
Israeli forces detained Baha Said, 31, a doctor from Hebron, and Assef Munther Taim Shreiteh, 14, from Yatta on Thursday morning.
Sources said that Israeli forces also detained Nidal Muhammad Khalil Madyeh, 22, and Marwan Wahid Hneihen, 20, from Halhul late Wednesday.
An Israeli army spokesperson did not immediately respond for comment, and the reason for the detentions are unknown.
Israeli forces detained at least 876 Palestinians during the month of October, prisoner rights group Addameer told Ma'an.
Addameer said the 876 new detainees in October brought the total number of Palestinians imprisoned by Israel to around 6,200 people.
Over 500 Palestinians were detained in the occupied West bank, 213 in East Jerusalem, and 152 in Israel. Over 130 of the detainees were children, Addameer said.
The latest upsurge in detentions comes as part of Israel's crackdown on the Palestinian population, under the pretext of restoring calm amid an increase in violence since Oct. 1.
While Israel has carried out a weekly average of 78 search and arrest raids of Palestinian towns in the occupied Palestinian territory in 2015, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, such raids have significantly increased this month.
The campaigns are a part of alleged efforts by Israeli authorities to "deescalate" current tensions in the area, measures that Palestinian ambassador to the UN, Riyad Mansour, has referred to as "repression and collective punishment."
