Occupation extends detention of MP Hatem Qafisha

12:00 Oct 12 2011 Al-Khalil (Hebron)

Description
AL-KHALIL, (PIC)-- Israeli occupation renewed the administrative detention of Dr. Hatem Qfisha, MP for al-Khalil, for another six months for the third time running.

Qafisha’s family said that despite the fact that no charges were brought against the lawmaker, it is the third time his detention has been renewed.

The Islamic MP’s Bureau in the West Bank, issued a statement condemning the detention of Qafisha and said that this was an occupation policy to keep the lawmakers from serving their people.

For its part, the International Campaign to Free Kidnapped MP's, condemned the extension of Qafisha’s administrative detention and called for international moves to free Palestinian MPs who have been kidnapped by the Israeli occupation, since they were elected by the Palestinian people in 2006.

The statement from the International Campaign added that the re-kidnapping of MP’s and their continued detention reflects Zionist contempt and insolence in dealing with the Palestinian democratic choice.

The International Campaign further called for criminalising the Israeli occupation for its continued illegal measures against Palestinian elected representatives, including the use of administrative detention without charge or trial for indefinite periods.

Qafisha spent a total of 11 years in administrative detention and was one of the Marj al-Zohour deportees in 1992.
