BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces conducted multiple predawn military raids across occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank Saturday, detaining 15 Palestinians.
In East Jerusalem's al-Issawiya neighborhood, locals told Ma’an that Israeli troops ransacked several houses before detaining Wajdi Mahmoud, Dawood Yousif Atiyyeh, Abed Darai and Muhammad Ali Nasser. They were taken to unknown destination.
Separately, Israeli forces detained four young Palestinian men from the Silwan neighborhood when Israeli forces stormed al-Thuri area. Amjad Abu Asab, a spokesman for a committee that represents Jerusalemite prisoners, identified the detainees as Faraj al-Joulani, Samir Shaloudi, Nidal Bazlamit, and Radwan Abdu al-Rahman.
In Jabal al-Mukabbir, locals told Ma’an Israeli forces detained 16-year-old Tawfiq Abu Dheim from his family home.
An Israeli police spokesperson did not immediately respond for comment on the detentions.
Meanwhile in the Nablus district of the occupied West Bank, security sources told Ma’an that Israeli forces stormed the Burqa village and detained Mustafa Hejjeh, 33, after raiding his home as well of the homes of several relatives.
Israeli forces also detained Muhammad Imad Muhammad Janajreh, 20, from the Talluza village and Issam Nizar Jamil Iseisan, 22, from the Ilar village.
Both men were travelling at the time of their detention, Janajreh in northern Nablus,and Iseisan from the Zaatara checkpoint in southern Nablus.
Palestinian security sources also told Ma'an that Israeli forces raided the Jenin district and detained Khalid Ahmad Saleh al-Khaldi, 39, Suleiman Khalid, Mahmoud Nassar, 40, and Sharif Taher Tahayneh, 45.
An Israeli army spokesperson did not have immediate information on West Bank arrests.
While search and arrest raids are commonplace in occupied Palestinian territory, rates of arrests have skyrocketed this month, with nearly 900 Palestinians detained since Oct. 1 according to prisoners’ group Addameer.
The committee told Ma’an that most of the Palestinians were detained during clashes with Israeli soldiers, or subsequently in overnight raids.
Around 6,200 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli jails.
