JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- A 16-year-old Palestinian was shot dead Saturday morning after allegedly attempting to stab an Israeli policeman in the illegal settlement of East Talpiot in occupied East Jerusalem, police said.
The teen reportedly attempted to stab the officer in the settlement, also known as Armon Hanatziv, according to Israeli police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld. Police responded at the scene, when the suspect was shot and killed.
He was identified asMuataz Ahmad Hajis Uweisat.
The teen was killed less than two hours after Fadil Qawasmi, 18, was shot and killed by an Israeli settler in Hebron after the teen reportedly attempted to stab him.
No Israeli injuries were reported in either incident.
The second Palestinian death on Saturday comes amid allegations by rights groups that Israeli forces have been carrying out "extrajudicial executions" of Palestinians during attacks.
B’Tselem argued this week that moves by Israeli officials have effectively condoned the killing of Palestinians by Israeli forces and civilians.
An investigation by the group released Thursday into footage of the deaths of Fadi Alloun and Basel Sidr showed that the two Palestinians “were shot while no longer posing danger.”
Thirty-nine Palestinians have been killed since Oct. 1, many of whom were shot on scene during suspected attacks. Seven Israelis have been killed by Palestinians during the same time period.
Israeli authorities have implemented measures this month in response to continuing attacks, including the deployment of additional military forces, expediting punitive home demolitions on family members of attackers, revoking the residency rights of alleged attackers, and enabling Israeli police to seal Palestinian residential areas of occupied East Jerusalem.
