Description
HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained a Palestinian student on Monday during a raid at the Palestine Technical College near al-Arrub refugee camp in the southern West Bank district of Hebron, a local popular committee spokesperson told Ma'an.

Muhammad Ayyas Awad said the student, identified as Amr Jamil Ahmad al-Alami, 20, was detained after Israeli forces closed the college's entrances and prevented students from entering or exiting the building.

An Israeli army spokesperson did not immediately respond for comment.

Al-Alami is reportedly from the town of Beit Ummar, near Hebron.
Additionally, Awad said Israeli forces detained him for around three hours while he was documenting the soldiers’ violations during the raid at the college.

Israeli forces have carried out a weekly average of 78 search and arrest raids in occupied Palestinian territory since the start of 2015 according to documentation by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Widespread arrest raids have been more frequent during the past several days, as tensions in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem have intensified.

Over 5,500 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli prisons under what critics say is arbitrary detention that amounts to collective punishment.
