An 18-year-old Palestinian was killed in a clash with Israeli troops near the West Bank city of Tulkarm on Sunday night, according to Palestinian reports.
The youth, who was shot in the head with a live bullet, was identified as Hudhayfah Ali, a resident of Bal'a. He was rushed to a nearby clinic, where he was pronounced dead.
Violent clashes between Palestinian youths and Israeli security forces broke out Sunday across the West Bank. According to Palestinian reports, more than 100 Palestinians were wounded by gunfire and teargas in clashes with the Israel Defense Forces. Palestinians also reported attacks by settlers.
The clashes broke out in the wake of two Jerusalem stabbing attacks that left two dead and three wounded on Saturday night. Early on Sunday, Israel Police decided to bar non-resident Palestinians from entering Jerusalem's Old City for 48 hours, prompting violent protests.
The Palestinian government condemned the "Israeli political and security escalation" in the West Bank and Jerusalem. In a statement published by the Palestinian news agency WAFA, the Palestinians asked the international community and the UN to intervene against Israeli violations, including the "killing of two Palestinians in Jerusalem," referring to two assailants shot dead by security forces after perpetrating the two attacks on Saturday night.
