JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli police officers shot dead a Palestinian teen near the Damascus Gate of Jerusalem's Old City early Sunday morning after he allegedly attempted to stab a 16-year-old Israeli boy, an Israeli police spokesperson said.

An Israeli police spokesperson said Israeli forces "identified the suspect who still had knife in his hand, and Israeli forces then neutralized and shot" him.

The 16-year-old Israeli was reportedly in moderate condition, according to Israeli media.

The Palestinian who was shot dead has been identified as Fadi Samir Mustafa Alloun, 19, from the occupied East Jerusalem village of al-Issawiya.

Alloun is the second Palestinian to be shot dead after allegedly stabbing Israelis in the Jerusalem's Old City in the past 24 hours.
However, Alloun's father has denied claims that his son tried to stab anyone before he was shot dead in the street, citing a video of the incident that has been circulating the internet.

"Videos from the scene show a group of settlers chasing my son and he was trying to run to an Israeli police patrol for protection,” the father told Ma'an.

The Israeli authorities, he said, will "make up pretexts to shoot and kill any Palestinian.”

The father added that Israeli police had taken his son’s body without giving the family any details about how he was killed and where his body was being held.

He said his family was only made aware of their son's death from media outlets.

Witnesses from the scene of the incident told Ma’an that a group of settlers surrounded Fadi and “wanted to kill him.” A police patrol then arrived and shot him dead, they said.

The incident took place just hours after another Palestinian was shot dead when he stabbed and possibly opened fire on a family of Israelis at the Old City's Lion's Gate.

Two Israelis were killed and two others injured, including a two-year-old infant, in the attack.

Both incidents came amid soaring tensions across occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank.

Recent weeks have seen fierce clashes in East Jerusalem as a result of severe entry restrictions to the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem's Old City -- the third holiest site in Islam.

Most Palestinians under the age of 50 have been denied entry to the mosque compound since Sept. 27, when Jews began celebrating the eight-day Sukkot festival.

On Saturday, a senior Hamas official called on Palestinians to take up arms to "defend" the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

"The only solution to defend the Al-Aqsa mosque and to prevent Israelis from carrying out their plans there is for West Bank and Jerusalem residents to take up arms," Mahmud Zahar said in an interview posted on the Islamist movement's website.

In the West Bank, meanwhile, Israeli settlers carried out violent reprisals on Friday and Saturday after two settlers were shot dead near Nablus on Thursday.

At least 10 Palestinians were reported injured with live rounds on Saturday as Israeli forces searched for those responsible for the shooting.

Israeli soldiers shot and killed, on Sunday at dawn, a Palestinian teenager in the al-Misrara area, in Bab al-Amoud in occupied east Jerusalem. The Israeli army claimed that the slain Palestinian stabbed an Israeli teen, causing moderate wounds.

The slain Palestinian has been identified as Fadi Samir ‘Alloun, 19 years of age. Eyewitnesses said the soldiers fired more than ten live rounds at the Palestinian, after chasing him.

After the Palestinian was shot, and lying motionless on the ground, several Israelis approached him, and started kicking him while shouting and cursing at him.

Israeli daily, Haaretz, said a Jewish teen, 15 years of age, suffered moderate wounds in the attack, and was transferred to the Shaare Zedek Medical Center, suffering stab injuries to his back and chest.

Dozens of Israelis also gathered in roads and alleys, especially in al-Misrara and Bab al-‘Amoud, hurled stones on Palestinian cars, and attacked several residents.

On Saturday during the day, Israeli soldiers shot and killed Mohannad Shafiq Halabi, 19 years of age, who stabbed an armed Israeli, then shot several others after grabbing the gun from the man he stabbed.
