Palestinian assaulted, injured by Jewish extremists in Lod

Description
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian resident of Lod in central Israel was attacked by three Jewish extremists early Sunday morning, Israeli media reported.

Imad Abu Sharikh was returning home after performing dawn prayers when the attackers verbally and physically assaulted him, according to Israeli daily newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth.

The three reportedly shouted that all Palestinians must be kicked out of Lod, the report said.

The majority of Lod's Palestinian residents fled after the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948, although the town continues to hold both Palestinian and Jewish residents.

Abu Sharikh sustained moderate injuries.

Israeli police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld did not immediately respond when contacted for comment.

Abu Sharikh’s daughter Samah told the daily that her father was a popular man in the city, saying: "I never imagined that Jewish extremism will reach this extent."

All eyes have turned to the Israeli government Friday following an arson attack carried out by extremist Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank that killed an 18-month-old infant and left his parents and four-year-old brother in critical condition.

The Israeli leadership has condemned the attack as an act of terrorism and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.

However, many Palestinians have rejected the condemnations as meaningless, pointing out that Israeli policies systematically enable such attacks to happen, with a near-zero conviction rate in crimes committed by Jewish extremists.
