JENIN (Ma'an) -- An 18-year-old Palestinian succumbed Tuesday to wounds sustained during clashes with Israeli forces late on Monday in al-Araqa village in western Jenin.
Palestinian security sources told Ma'an that Muhammad Murad Muhammad Mustafa Yahiya died early Tuesday in the Rafidia Governmental Hospital in Nablus from wounds he had sustained near the separation wall in al-Araqa.
Sources said that the teen had been shot with a live bullet by Israeli forces in his lower stomach.
He underwent surgery after his injury was reported as critical, but was pronounced dead Tuesday morning.
Locals in the al-Araqa village said that Israeli forces also detained two brothers before leaving the village, identified as brothers Ayman and Ahmed Yaqub Saleh Yahiya.
An Israeli army spokeswoman confirmed the shooting.
She alleged that a group of Palestinians had been "attempting to breach the security fence," and that Israeli forces ordered them to halt.
When the Palestinians "refused to halt" the soldiers opened fire "at their lower extremities," she said.
She said there had been one confirmed hit, and that the Israeli Military Advocate General had opened an investigation into the incident. She also confirmed the two arrests.
Muhammad Yahiya is the third Palestinian to be killed by Israeli forces in recent days, after another teenager was killed in East Jerusalem for allegedly running at Israeli police "wielding a knife," and a Palestinian man was shot dead in Hebron after he allegedly stabbed an Israeli soldier.
