RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Eleven Palestinians have been transferred to administrative detention by Israeli courts, the Palestinian Prisoner's Society said on Thursday, bringing the total number of Palestinians being held in administrative detention to around 450.

268 of those being held were detained during a massive Israeli military campaign across the West Bank that began after three Israeli teenagers went missing in mid-June from the Jewish settlement of Gush Etzion, more than doubling the number of those being held.

Although Israel identified two individuals suspected of carrying out a kidnapping and murder, it arrested more than 1,000 other Palestinians in a wide-reaching campaign of raids, detentions, and a two-week blockade on Hebron that sparked anger across the country.

The arrested individuals included members of the Palestinian parliament, members of Hamas' political wing, and ex-prisoners released as part of the 2011 Gilad Shalit exchange deal.

Administrative detention refers to an Israeli policy of detaining Palestinians indefinitely without charge or trial. Palestinians are sentenced to periods of time in administrative detention which can be renewed multiple times before any charges are ever brought.

Before the Israeli arrest campaign began in June, there were more than 5,000 Palestinians in Israeli jails, including almost 200 in administrative detention.

According to the Palestinian Prisoner's Society, the names of the 11 individuals transferred to administrative detention as well as their sentence periods are:

1. Said Abu Tahun, Tulkarem, 6 months.
2. Hani Shalash, Hebron, 6 months.
3. Nour al-Din Elayyan, Ramallah, 6 months.
4. Thair Samadaa, Ramallah, 6 months.
5. Musaab Hindi, Nablus, 2 months.
6. Ihab Elayyan, Ramallah, 6 months.
7. Youssef Abu Fara, Hebron, 4 months.
8. Iyad Daraghma, Tubas, 3 months.
9. Saji Abu Abdu, Qalqiliya, 5 months.
10. Ibrahim Sabaa, Ramallah, 4 months.
11. Muhammad Harbiyat, Hebron, 6 months.
