Israeli forces confiscate tents in Nablus-area village

06:00 May 18 2014 near Aqraba

Description
NABLUS (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces raided the Khirbet al-Taweel area near the northern West Bank village of Aqraba in the northern West Bank on Sunday morning and confiscated tents that locals use as dwellings.

Ghassan Daghlas, a Palestinian Authority official who monitors settlement-related activities in the northern West Bank, told Ma'an that Israeli military patrols stormed the area near the city of Nablus for the third time in less than a month.

The Israeli troops confiscated three tents during the raid, claiming they were erected without a license.

Two weeks ago, Israeli bulldozers raided the same neighborhood and demolished houses and residential steel structures.

An Israeli military spokeswoman did not return calls seeking comment.

Israel has destroyed more than 248 Palestinian properties in the West Bank and East Jerusalem so far in 2014, displacing 492 people, according to UNOCHA.

Israel rarely grants Palestinians permits to build in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. It has demolished at least 27,000 Palestinian homes and structures since occupying the West Bank in 1967, according to the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions.
