JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- The Israeli municipality of Jerusalem has ordered the demolition of a Palestinian building in East Jerusalem after claiming the owner should have obtained a construction permit.

The owner, Muatasim Adila, a lecturer at al-Quds University, told Ma'an Wednesday that the demolition order for his home in Abu Dis was surprising because his building is in the West Bank and he "possesses all documents to prove that."

The demolition comes into effect on March 29, added Adila. He pointed out that a two-story building was built in 1959, and in 2012 he added a third story after he obtained the needed license from the Palestinian Authority as the area is under Palestinian control.

The municipality of Jerusalem first issued an administrative demolition order in April 2013, Adila added.

The municipality, says Adila, claims that his house has been built in an area controlled by Jerusalem despite the fact that Israel’s land registrar show that the area is part of the West Bank.

He added that he found himself obliged to try and obtain a construction license from the municipality, but he was not given a license. An appeal will be submitted on behalf of Adila to court of appeal in Jerusalem.

The building is located near the disputed Cliff Hotel in Abu Dis.

Since 1996, Israeli authorities have been trying to confiscate the hotel.
