GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- A man was killed on Wednesday in the Gaza Strip after an Israeli strike targeted the al-Shujaiyeh neighborhood in Gaza City, medical sources said.
"A Palestinian militant was killed by an Israeli drone in Shujaiyeh," said Ashraf al-Qidra, spokesman for the Hamas-run health ministry, referring to a district near the Israeli border with Gaza.
He named the dead man as Muhammad Salamah al-Ijlah, 32, and said his body had been torn apart by the blast, the limbs ripped by shrapnel.
Family sources in the neighborhood said Ijlah was a militant from Islamic Jihad's Al-Quds Brigade and was killed by a drone.
The militant group issued a statement confirming Ijlah was one of its members but said he had been killed "in a Zionist shelling" on the area.
Earlier reports said that Israeli tanks had fired into the Gaza neighborhood.
"We did not strike in Gaza today and we are unaware of any incident involving tanks or other shooting," an Israeli military spokeswoman told AFP.
