Description
QALQILIYA (Ma'an) -- Settlers destroyed over 300 olive trees in a Qalqiliya village on Thursday, a Palestinian Authority official said.

Ghassan Daghlas, an official who monitors settlement activity in the northern West Bank, told Ma'an that settlers from Qarni Shomron uprooted hundreds of newly planted trees near Azzun village.

The trees belonged to Salih Radwan and Ahmad Abdullah Radwan.

It is the latest in a string of attacks targeting the Palestinian olive harvest.

On Wednesday, settlers destroyed over 600 olive trees in the Nablus village of Einabus.

On Oct. 26, masked Israeli settlers approached the Palestinian village of al-Mughayir and attacked the Naasan family with stones while they were harvesting olives, B'Tselem said.

A day earlier, Israeli settlers uprooted 30 olive trees in Huwwara village south of Nablus, an official said.

According to a 2012 report on Israeli settler violence released by the Palestine Center, a Washington-based nonprofit, every year the olive harvest period sees the highest peak in attacks on Palestinian civilians and property.

In 2012, settlers damaged or destroyed over 7,500 olive trees between January and October, according to OCHA.

The olive industry supports the livelihoods of roughly 80,000 families in the occupied West Bank.
