JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces raided the African neighborhood of the Old City of Jerusalem and assaulted Moayyad Salaymeh, 22, before detaining him on Tuesday, a local official said.
Nasser Qaws, the director of the Palestinian Prisoners' Society office in Jerusalem, told Ma'an that an Israeli military force accompanied by an intelligence officer raided the African community neighborhood in the Old City in order to detain a young man.
When Israeli forces raided the neighborhood, verbal altercations occurred and led to clashes between Israeli forces and locals. Israeli forces reportedly sprayed pepper gas and pushed women and children in the area.
The raid lasted around one hour and half, during which time Israeli forces surrounded the neighborhood. During this time, they raided several houses and assaulted numerous residents.
An Israeli police spokesman in Jerusalem did not return calls seeking comment.
