BEIT HANOUN, GAZA, October 1, 2013 (WAFA) – Israeli soldiers opened fire Monday night and killed a Palestinian east of Beit Hanoun in the north of the Gaza Strip.

Medical sources at Kamal Udwan hospital in Beit Lahia said ambulances were able to retrieve the body of Hweishel Abu Hweishel, 36, from the Mughraqa area south of Gaza City, before midnight after it was possible to reach that area following heavy shooting and Israeli army operation in the area.

Reports said soldiers stationed at the borders north of Gaza opened fire at two Palestinians in Beit Hanoun claiming they came close to the fence Israel has built along its borders with the Gaza Strip. The army said it killed one person.

The soldiers also arrested another Palestinian who apparently was in the same area.

Israeli army earlier fired several shells at the same area, apparently as they suspected Palestinians were going to infiltrate the border.

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces shot a Palestinian man approaching a border fence in the Gaza Strip, a military official and Israeli media reported.

An army spokeswoman told Ma'an that soldiers based on the border "identified a hit" after firing on two Palestinians who approached the fence suspiciously. The official said they had ignored warnings to turn around, and the soldiers opened fire to protect themselves.

Israel's Ynet news site said one of the Palestinians died. The report could not be immediately confirmed.

Golani Brigade unit observes two suspects approaching border fence in northern Gaza Strip, open fire; two Palestinians hit

IDF forces fired at two Palestinian approaching the fence in the Northern Gaza Strip Monday. The two were hit, one reportedly killed and the other apprehended by security forces, following a short chase.

It remains unclear whether the Palestinians were armed.

The IDF launched an investigation into the incident, looking into the possibility that the two were trying to place an explosive device in the area.

The incident occurred when an IDF unit with the Golani Brigade identified two suspects approaching the fence and opened fire in line with rules of engagement, eventually hitting them.

IDF troops are scouring the area to see if any explosives were placed.

Palestinian sources in the Gaza Strip reported that IDF aircraft were circling over the area where the incident took place.
