BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces shot and injured a Palestinian teenager in Bethlehem late Friday, medics said.

Rashid Darwish, 17, from Aida refugee camp, sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen after Israeli soldiers stationed at a military watchtower near the separation wall opened fire.

Medics transferred the teenager to Beit Jala hospital where he was undergoing surgery late Friday. Hospital officials described the teenager's injuries as critical.

An Israeli military spokeswoman did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
