JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces arrested four people in East Jerusalem on Sunday during clashes near the old city, locals said.

The clashes occurred after an Israeli policeman stopped a young Palestinian near Herod's gate and an argument broke out, witnesses said.

Several local youths tried to intervene and were attacked by Israeli police.

Jihad Abu Kharoub, Hussam Sider, Rafat Ajlouni, and an unnamed man were arrested during the incident.

Sunday evening May 26 2013, Israeli soldiers kidnapped seven Palestinians, shot and wounded several others, during clashes that took place in the Old City of occupied East Jerusalem. Two more Palestinians were kidnapped near Jenin.

Local sources have reported that the army broke into and searched several homers, and occupied rooftops during clashes that took place in the Old City of Jerusalem.

The sources added that the army kidnapped four Palestinians and took them to an unknown destination; three of the kidnapped have been identified as Jihad Abu Kharroub, Hisam Sidir, and Ra’fat Al-Ajlouny.

The kidnapped residents were violently attacked and beaten by the arresting officers, before being moved to an interrogation facility.

The Palestine News & Info Agency (WAFA) has reported that several Palestinians were shot and injured by rubber-coated metal bullets fired by the Israeli army and Police.

WAFA added that the clashes mainly took place in Bab Al-Asbat (Gate of the Tribes) area, and near the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the city.

The clashes lasted for more than one hour, and the army kidnapped seven Palestinians before moving them to a Police station in the city.

Eyewitnesses have reported that one of the guards of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, identified as Jihad Al-Mohtasib, was also shot by a rubber-coated metal bullet in his arm.

Also on Sunday evening, the army kidnapped two Palestinians in Ya’bod and Arraba towns, in the northern West Bank district of Jenin.

Palestinian security forces have reported that the army kidnapped Mohammad Ahmad Meetany, 16, as he was standing in front of his home in Ya’bod, while resident Nateq Husam Hantounly, 22, was kidnapped at a roadblock installed by the army at the main entrance of Arraba village.
