Description
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israel freed a female detainee on Sunday evening after a year in prison, a statement issued by the Detainees' Center in Bethlehem said.

Manar Zawareh called for the release of female detainees in Israeli prisons during an event organized by the center celebrating her release. She told gatherers that there are 14 women prisoners in Israel's Hasharon prison, describing the conditions as dire.

The former prisoner has sent a letter to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas calling on him to "rescue female detainees before it's too late."

Zawahreh was accused of attempting to stab an Israeli soldier at the 300 checkpoint situated between Bethlehem and Jerusalem.
