BETHELHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained five teenagers from Beit Fajjar, south of Bethlehem, overnight Friday, and the army said they were held for involvement in a shooting.
Locals told Ma'an that Israeli forces raided the town three times between 10:30 p.m. and dawn Saturday.
Khalid Tareq Takatkah 16, Farhan Hussam Qawasmeh, 15, were first arrested, and an hour later Mohammad Naseem Takatkah, 16, was seized. In that raid, soldiers clashed with residents, firing tear gas and sound grenades, residents said.
Then at dawn, forces returned detained two others, Nour Ibrahim Thawabteh, 14, and Muhammad Jihad Takatkah, 14.
An Israeli army spokeswoman said the five were detained on suspicion of involvement in a shooting in the early hours, without providing further details. She said soldiers used riot dispersal means during one of the raids.
