A Palestinian stabbed a 17-year old boy today near Tapuah junction. As the assailant, a Ramallah resident in his twenties, attempted to flee the scene, a Border Police unit pursued him and took him into custody.
The injuries of the teen, who is being treated at Beilinson Hospital, Rabin Medical Center, Petah Tikva, were defined as slight to moderate. Magen David Adom reported that he was stabbed in the upper body while waiting for a ride at Tapuah junction in the northern West Bank.
The head of the Shomron Regional Council, Gershon Mesika, said: “It is clear to every thinking person that the atmosphere of weakness conveyed by the government strengthens the motivation of terrorists to carry out attacks – on both sides of the Green Line.”
“If security checkpoints had not been removed throughout Judea and Samaria, including at Tapuah itself, the terrorist would not have been able to reach the place armed with a knife. The government must reestablish deterrence.” Mesika added that the first obvious step would be to restore the checkpoints at Tapuah and Hawara junctions near Nablus.
The chairman of the Shomron Residents Committee, Benny Katzover, said: “The IDF must prepare itself appropriately for a stricter policy in the face of any attempted terror attack and on the other hand, the prime minister must go back to using the weapon of the Zionist response and respond to every terror attack with an action in the realm of settlement.”
