Recent demolitions

Since the end of Eid last week Israeli authorities have demolished around 40 Palestinian structures in the West Bank, including 16 residential structures and 20 livelihood-related structures. In addition, around 20 structures were demolished by their Palestinian owners on orders from the Israeli authorities. This is roughly a five-fold increase in the weekly average of structures demolished for 2012. Today, demolitions took place in 4 locations throughout the West Bank:

Haris village, Salfit Governorate: Israeli authorities demolished Palestinian residential structures. The structures were uninhabited, but two families (14 people, including 8 children) are affected.

According to JLAC, a legal aid NGO which provides free legal aid and representation to a number of families in the community, they had tried to submit building permits for as many as 17 structures in the village, but without success. During the demolition, clashes broke out between the Israeli military and residents of the village, with the military firing tear gas, sound grenades and rubber-coated bullets, resulting in the injury of around 10 Palestinians.

An OCHA team, together with JLAC, NRC, MDM and other partners, will visit the community tomorrow to conduct an assessment.

In Bardala and Humsa in the northern Jordan Valley: Israeli authorities demolished 3 Palestinian structures, i.e. two in Bardala (an animal shelter and a tent used for rest) and one in Humsa, just north of Bardala (residential tent, uninhabited). The demolitions affected at least 13 people.
