In South Hebron Hills, settlers and soldiers continue to harass and intimidate the local Palestinians. These acts are meant to prevent any semblance of normal life for the Palestinians, and are ultimately designed to force them to forfeit their homes and lands.
On Thursday (September 27)
A settler from Mitzpe Yair blocked the road to Bir el-eid. Another settler harassed a herd and a its shepherd. Three hooded settlers assaulted an Israeli activist who was documenting illegal construction in the outpost Avigal. The assistants blindfolded the activist, beaten him, stole two cameras, his mobile and his ID. They further read at him his personal details, threatening to come to his home and the homes of his relatives.
On Saturday
(September 29)
The army forces declared grazing lands near Rihyia a closed military zone, with the obvious purpose of preventing shepherding and in clear violation of the army's guidelines on access to agricultural lands. Settlers from Havat Maon threw stones at Palestinians and activists near A-Twanni. On the same days, scores of settlers invaded the lands of Palestinian Susya. One settler declared the settlers are intent on a campaign of intimidation.
On Sunday (September 30)
Shepherds from Umm el-Amad were expelled from their (privately owned) grazing lands. The soldiers justified the expulsion by the Jewish holiday of Sukkot.
On Monday (October 1) soldiers detained two women from Umm el-khier who were collecting wood near the settlement of Carmel. Later, the same soldiers expelled shepherds from the Awad family, residing in the nearby khirbet Tala, from their lands. The army also blocked dirt roads around Shaeeb el-Butum.
This coming Saturday, October 6, we need as many activists as possible to accompany them and stand up for their rights. There is a direct link between the number of activists who come to accompany the farmers and their ability to harvest and work their lands.
