HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces arrested five people overnight Tuesday, Israel's army and a local committee said.

A number of military vehicles carrying around 200 Israeli soldiers raided several neighborhoods in Beit Ummar, Hebron, and arrested released prisoner Yousef Muhammad Kamel Awad, 22, and brothers Khalid and Muhammad Ikhlayel, local committee spokesman Ayad Awad told Ma'an.

An Israeli army spokeswoman said that five people were arrested overnight for security questioning. One person was arrested near Jenin, two in Nablus and two in Beit Ummar, she added.

Palestinians living in the occupied territories are routinely arrested by Israeli forces, usually on the pretext of security.

Around 40 percent of Palestinian men living in the occupied territories have been detained by Israel at some point in their lives.
